Ziwa Rhino and Wildlife Ranch is a private wildlife sanctuary in Uganda which was established in the early 2005 to reintroduce southern white rhinos into the wild. The sanctuary is the only site in the country where these endangered creatures can be observed in nature It is a collaborative effort between Ziwa Rhino and Wildlife Ranch, which owns the land on which the sanctuary is located, and the Uganda Wildlife Authority, a government agency tasked with protecting Uganda’s wildlife resources In June 2024, the farm was home to 41 rhinos

The ranch is found approximately 164 kilo metres (102 mi) by road, north of Kampala, Uganda’s largest capital city. The location is next to Mukerenge Village, Nakasongola District, in the Kafu River Basin, off Kampala–Gulu Highway.

The rhinos were natives of Uganda but factors like prolonged armed human conflict, poaching and mismanagement of their natural habitat led to the eradication of these rhinos in the country by 1982. Ziwa Rhino and Wildlife Ranch was instituted in 2005 to re-establish the southern white rhinoceros in Uganda. The long-term goal of the ranch is to “build a viable rhinoceros population and transfer rhinos back to their original habitat in Uganda’s protected areas”. As of January 2010, Ziwa Rhino and Wildlife Ranch was the only location in Uganda where rhinos could be spotted in their natural territory.

Starting with a total of six animals, of which four were bought from Solio Ranch in Kenya and two donated from Disney’s Animal Kingdom in Orlando, Florida, in the United States, the rhino population had expanded to thirteen as of June 2013. With the birth of another calf in April 2014, the total rhino population at Ziwa Rhino and Wildlife Ranch increased to 15.In March 2018, the rhino numbers at the ranch had risen to twenty-two animals, and 33 in December 2021. Following June 2024,The population has increased to 50.
