Arcadia lodge is a luxury cottage located in western Uganda, Kabale city overlooking Lake Bunyonyi which is one of the deepest lakes in Africa. The lodge is built on a hill which gives visitors beautiful views of lake Bunyonyi, the countryside and the rolling hills that surround the area. How to reach Arcadia lodge

One way to access Arcadia lodge is by road drives using private or public means from Kampala or Entebbe which takes about 8 to 9 hours. Travelling by bus to Kabale, Kisoro and Miko costs about 15 USD per seat. Once you reach Kabale, board a motorcycle or special taxi to Arcadia lodge which costs 30 USD.

Alternatively, you can reach Arcadia lodge by taking a flight from Entebbe International Airport to Kisoro airstrip. This is the most convenient means of transport. you are advised to book your transfer from Kisoro airstrip in advance so that you find your private driver waiting for you to your destination.

Activities during your stay at Arcadia lodge

Gorilla trekking

Arcadia lodge is near Rushaga and Nkuringo sectors in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest which are 15 and 45 minutes away from the lodge respectively. You are advised to book gorilla trekking permits in advance at least 3-5 months before the trek date since they run out in peak seasons. The costs for gorilla permits are 70 USD per person per trek for East African citizens, 800 USD per person per trek for non-foreign citizens and 700 USD per person per trek for foreign residents.

 Gorilla habituation

This activity is only done in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park which gives trekkers an opportunity to spend a maximum of 4 hours in the presence of gorillas. This experience is intended to make gorillas get used to human presence for future normal trekking. The activity is also preferred because trekkers are grouped in groups of 4 unlike 8 people for normal trekking. Each gorilla habituation permit costs 1500 USD per person per trek. Birdwatching

Visitors can choose to watch some bird species from the comfort of their lodge or arrange a full day bird watching experience with experienced guides in Bwindi Forest which has more than 400 bird species.

Batwa cultural experience

 You will have a chance to mingle with the Bwindi natives while staying at Arcadia lodge. This includes learning about their day-to-day life, language, culture, dances and appreciating their art.

Golden monkey trekking

This is done from Mgahinga Gorilla National Park which takes about 1-2 hours from the lodge. A golden monkey trekking permit costs 100 USD per person per trek which includes park entry fees.

Golden monkey habituation

Golden monkey habituation at Mgahinga Gorilla National Park gives visitors a chance to spend more time with these monkeys. Unlike other activities that do not require advance booking, golden monkey habituation permits need advance booking because they run out especially during peak seasons. Each habituation permit costs 135 USD per person.

Nature walks

Touring through Bwindi Forest gives visitors a chance to see several bird species and learn more about the flora and fauna in the forest.

Dug-out canoeing

Many historical islands can be visited while you are at Lake Bunyonyi. This takes about 1-2 hours from Arcadia lodge.
